Babu’s Philosophy: I believe that doing some bone breaking postures and feeling pride does not mean practicing yoga. Instead we should practice yoga with an effortless flow of devotion to the caretaker of this Universe. We should be thankful for what we had and had not, for what we have and have not and for what we will have and not have. This ‘sama bhavana’ (feeling of oneness) brings peace within us.

Sabrina’s Philosophy: I see the aim of Hatha Yoga practice as wholeness through integration. Yoga, meaning “union,” is the heiros gamos, or sacred marriage, which joins together the opposites that are present in each of us. “Ha” means Sun and “Tha” is Moon, so that the word “Hatha” represents this integration of the Solar Masculine and Lunar Feminine, which ultimately lead us toward wholeness.
ISHTA Yoga Teachers
Raphaella Rose – Barcelona, Spain
Raphaella qualified as an ISHTA Yoga teacher in 2005 with Rachel Zinman in Byron Bay, Australia (certified through Yoga Arts). She has since taught around the world including Yosemite National Park, London, Thailand and in Barcelona where she is now based. read more
She teaches regularly and organizes annual retreats in Europe.
ISHTA Yoga is based on Hatha yoga postures and combines a tantric philosophy which can be experienced in the meditations with visualizations. Some key influences to her teaching approach stem from Rachel Zinman, Alan Finger- founder of ISHTA Yoga and John Friend (Anusara Yoga). Raphaella offers in English and Spanish: Hatha Yoga, Pregnancy Yoga and Mums & Baby classes.
Raphaella’s Philosophy: “It’s not how much you do, it’s how much love you put in the doing.” Once a competitive gymnast training for the Olympics I experienced the extreme measures of pushing my body to the limit and what damage that can cause. So for me yoga and the classes I teach are about taking a step back. Not worrying if others are practicing postures more advanced than you, or pushing into postures you may not be ready for. If we can embrace the power of the messages our body sends us and switch off our mind messages whilst remaining totally aware, then I think this is our greatest gift in yoga.

She has worked with a long list of senior teachers in Australia and India, including Geeta Iyengar, BKS Iyengar’s daughter, during her visit to Australia in 2003. After exploring many different styles of yoga she was completely drawn to Iyengar yoga, its precision and accessibility for all different bodies. Yoga has become her way of life, and teaching is her passion.
Nik’s Philosophy: The greatest challenge we all have with yoga is to be true and honest with ourselves – to avoid over ambition, and forcing ourselves to practice in a way that brings further hardness, rigidity and tension. The greatest lesson I share is the ability to teach students how to move with inner awareness. To shift awareness from the outer body and learn to connect deep within through a holistic understanding of yoga asanas, breath through the practice of pranayma, and ultimately to the deeper states of meditation.

Maurice’s Philosophy: [Yoga is] a dialogue you can have with your physical body that allows you to be comfortable in your own skin. In a culture that is often bereft of a profound connection to the sensual aspect of what it means to be in a human body, one loses sight of what a gift and delight that is, and that pleasure is a birthright.

Gowd Guruji was born in the southern part of India and is a nationally and internationally celebrated young yoga guru and spiritual leader known for his passionate, dynamic, creative and inspirational style of teaching that incorporates both the physical and spiritual aspects of the yoga practice and life skills. read more
He was introduced to yoga from his childhood days. It was during the professional study of yoga, he was introduced to humanitarianism. During the same period, he began working on “Importance of Yoga in life”. Through this he learned the benefits of creative healing through smiles, self-inquiry, reflection and acceptance. Soon, combining his daily asana practice with his commitment to the inner emotional and spiritual journey he created for himself a transformational healing path – “Praana Vinyasa Yoga”, combination of Hatha yoga, Sivananda yoga, Vinyasa yoga, Pathanjali yoga and Gandharva Vidya.
Gowd’s Philosophy: I personally believe practicing yoga doesn’t just mean doing exercises and poses, it can also be meditation, spiritual study, chanting and service to others. Yoga practice should be designed focusing on the flow of Prana (life energy) in our body which helps in creating the sensation of renewal throughout ones entire physical, intellectual and emotional body.
Jan Norman – British Columbia, Canada
My passion for yoga grew as my own need for the clarity and peace that yoga brought me increased. I bring to the mat my 35 years of coaching skills and the biomechanical expertise I have acquired coaching National and International level athletes. read more
Jan’s Philosophy:
“You cannot do yoga. Yoga is your natural state. What you can do are yoga exercises, which may reveal to you where you are resisting your natural state”. “Brokenness is learned, not innate. Our work is to find our way back to what is already whole.” (Our natural state.) These two quotes explain my underlying philosophy for sharing and loving yoga. Every body is beautiful and your body does not lie. It tells the truth — yoga is a beautiful place to listen to it!
